Moonlight of My Life

Last night I lay in bed

And felt on me a thread

Of hair, it was a strand

I turned around and saw

You, in soft moonlight

I kissed you, then said

“Hey, my dearest Mimi”

So incredibly pretty

You smiled and caressed my hair

For you all thoughts I lay bare

For you to see

Entirely.

With you for hours I talk and talk

Amidst the ticking of the clock

I confess to you how I’ve been

Tragedies buried deep within

The clock strikes 4, I kiss you again

You scoot near, away melts the pain

I smile and embrace you for the final time

And gaze upon your face, my very shrine

Porcelain in the nightcap of moonshine,

When you disappear into the dark

My sad reality now dead and stark

For I lost within me that tiny spark

Which made my life such a dream

The time you were there with me

Every hour, every moment, every breath

Almost escaping inevitable death

And so into the night you fade

Leaving behind only a braid

I fall asleep, out of light, out of sight

Into darkness’s dead eternal blight.
