Introducing ampersand’s blog: & What About It?

This is a casual space for poets (or whatever you like to call yourself) to share your writing processes and/or writing experiences. Most high school English teachers will always ask you one question after you make any literary observation, and that question is: “…So What?”

The approach of this blog is similar. Poetry is lovely at surface level, but we also want to know what about it is unique? What makes it yours? How do you get there?

A series of blogs will be published every week, quantity permitting. They will NOT necessarily be restricted to the theme, will remain unedited, and there are no deadlines.

You can submit anything related to your writing processes or experiences, but here are some ideas:

  • an accompanying piece analysing your submitted poem (as specific as you’d like)

  • a day-in-the-life of you as a writer

  • a journal entry about the moment that led you to writing the poem you submitted

  • a short essay or memoir piece (NOT a poem) relating to the theme of the month

  • a random thought about your favourite word or literary device of recent
